Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide

The National Science Foundation has named Ceralink's new low cost method for Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide a "disruptive technology". We've applied for a patent and we are looking for partners. What's special is the way we have harnessed the reaction between carbon and silicon. We use low cost, easy to purify all carbon preforms, instead of silicon carbide grains. We use a proprietary formula and special methods for controlling the highly exothermic reaction to give us the fastest, cheapest way of making reaction bonded silicon carbide. And the nature of this method gives the finest SiC grains for highest hardness and strength. The first target applications are mechanical pump seals, bearings, and other wear parts. The bright future for this high purity Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide is in semiconductor processing components.


  • Ability to produce high purity end products at a much lower cost using fine carbon instead of SiC for the preform
